Cough and Sore Throat Remedy: Turmeric and Honey

Ingredients:
  • 1 tsp of Honey
  • Turmeric

Method:
  1. Spoon 1 tsp of honey
  2. Sprinkle turmeric to cover the honey
  3. Consume mixture every 2 hours

Why it works

Honey has anti-bacterial properties to kill the bad bacteria and prevent infection. It is also a humectant, it gives moisture and soothes a dry throat and cough. It is also a hypertonic osmotic (it draws fluid from inflamed tissue). This reduces the swelling in the throat. Turmeric is also an anti-bacterial substance. It's able to prevent the condition from worsening.

Caution: Turmeric can leave a yellow stain. Do not use turmeric if you have gallstones or are taking blood thinners.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp honey

Method:
  1. Mix both ingredients together in a bowl
  2. Apply the mixture to your lips and leave for a few minute
  3. Using your finger, gently rub the mixture in circular motions to remove the dead skin cells. Don’t peel off any skin as it will make your lips prone to infection and leave a burning sensation.
  4. Wash your lips with lukewarm water
  5. Use as often as needed

Why this works

Firstly, honey is a humectant which means it helps retain moisture and has antimicrobial properties. The sugar exfoliates the skin and gets rid of the dead skin cells and residue. This makes your lips soft and read to absorb the moisture from the honey. It stimulates your lymph system and eliminates toxins. Gently rubbing it also improves blood circulation. This scrub gently heals your lips.
